How does Wayla reduce plastic use?

Wayla is committed to sustainability through plastic-free packaging, using materials that are recyclable and compostable. We store our stock in reusable containers instead of using individual plastic garment bags, and we recycle any possible plastic and paper by-products from our studio. We aim to inspire reducing plastic use in our daily lives, offering clothing made from natural fibers as an alternative to synthetic materials like polyester and acrylic made from virgin petroleum while also minimizing microplastics pollution.

In addition to these efforts, Wayla supports Sungai Watch, a Bali-based organization dedicated to cleaning and protecting rivers from plastic pollution. By partnering with initiatives like this, we actively contribute to reducing plastic waste and its environmental impact.

What makes Wayla’s designs sustainable?

Wayla’s sustainability ethos is behind everything we do. We create timeless, seasonless pieces using sustainable materials like certified EUROPEAN FLAX® linen and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose, as well as zero-waste natural knitwear. Our practices include small-batch production, low-waste production models, plastic-free packaging, and carbon-neutral shipping. Additionally, our designs are versatile and ideal for daily casual wear, encouraging you to get more use out of each piece, which enhances their sustainability. Fast fashion, by contrast, refers to the rapid production of inexpensive, trend-driven clothing that often leads to overconsumption and waste. By creating timeless, long-lasting pieces, Wayla aims to challenge this model and promote a more sustainable approach to fashion.

What materials are used in Wayla’s collections? Are they natural, traceable, and ethically sourced?

Our garments are crafted from sustainable materials, including OEKO-TEX® certified EUROPEAN FLAX® linen and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose, both derived from renewable resources. EUROPEAN FLAX® linen is grown and harvested in Europe under environmentally responsible practices, ensuring minimal water usage, no irrigation, and zero genetically modified organisms (GMOs). It is fully traceable from seed to fabric, giving customers confidence in its ethical sourcing and low environmental impact.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose is produced from certified renewable wood sources, primarily from responsibly managed forests. It boasts a significantly lower environmental footprint compared to conventional viscose, as it uses less water and energy during production. LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is certified by the EU Ecolabel for its high environmental standards, including traceability and transparency throughout the supply chain. Transparency is a core value at Wayla, and these certifications guarantee traceability, allowing us to maintain high standards in sourcing and production. By sharing these details, we aim to empower our customers with knowledge about the origins and sustainable credentials of the materials used in our designs.

How is Wayla’s packaging designed?

Our packaging is thoughtfully designed with sustainability, minimalism, and customer experience in mind. We use plant-based, biodegradable materials such as kraft cardboard boxes, paper-based tape, and tissue paper to ensure your order is delivered safely while minimizing waste. Every element is chosen not only to reduce our environmental impact but also to create a special and thoughtful unboxing experience that reflects Wayla’s values of simplicity, care, and sustainability.

How should I wash and care for Wayla clothes?

To maintain the quality of delicate fabrics like linen or LENZING™ ECOVERO™, hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild, eco-friendly detergent. Avoid bleach and tumble drying; instead, lay flat or hang dry in a shaded area to preserve fibers and colors.

Are there specific care routines recommended for your products?

Wayla encourages mindful care routines, such as airing garments after use to reduce washing frequency and extend their lifespan. This approach aligns with our commitment to sustainability and ensures the longevity of your clothing.

How does Wayla support Balinese communities and honor their traditions?

Wayla collaborates with small-scale production workshops in Bali that uphold ethical practices and provide fair working conditions. By working with these workshops, we support local artisans and help sustain their livelihoods.

We respect Balinese cultural and religious traditions by accommodating ceremonial holidays within production schedules. While our designs are not directly inspired by Balinese traditions, they reflect an appreciation for the island’s culture, combined with our focus on simplicity and sustainability.

In addition, Wayla donates a percentage of its sales to two Bali-based organizations: Sungai Watch, which focuses on cleaning and protecting rivers from plastic pollution, and Stella's Child, which empowers underprivileged youth through education and skills training. These initiatives align with our commitment to environmental conservation and community well-being.

What Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) actions has Wayla implemented?

Wayla incorporates several CSR initiatives, including carbon-neutral shipping, plastic-free packaging, and tree-planting efforts to combat deforestation. We also support the Balinese economy by partnering with local workshops and artisans, ensuring fair wages and safe working environments. Additionally, we donate a percentage of our sales to reputable local organizations, such as Sungai Watch and Stella’s Child, which focus on environmental conservation and socioeconomic empowerment.

What is the origin and meaning of the name Wayla?

It reflects both the journey toward sustainability and mindful living, as well as the broader human journey of life. Wayla represents our commitment to creating thoughtful, sustainable pieces that serve as part of your personal journey of life.
